Opportunity Description:
Alberta contains significant and overlapping natural resources that sustains biodiversity, industrial development, Indigenous communities, recreational resources, and rural communities.The government requires a means to streamline and assure consistent social and economic analysis to support planning. Land use planning at this scale is critical to managing lands and natural resources that recognize Alberta’s diversity and achieves Alberta's long-term economic, environmental and social goals.
Strategies for the recovery of Woodland Caribou will be a key component of the sub-regional planning initiatives. Sub-regional caribou task forces (councils) will be established to enable people with expertise and people with experience working and living in caribou ranges. These task force conversations will plan and evaluate scenarios for working landscape approaches to energy development and forest harvesting, manage and monitor populations, as well as landscape-scale restoration programs. The assessments may be required to integrate a gender and diversity approach.
The assessments will evaluate the social (using a gender and diversity approach) and economic implications on the various demographics that use Alberta’s public lands, including, but not limited to, the following:
1. Industrial stakeholders including but not limited to energy (oil, gas, oil sands), forestry, metallic and industrial minerals, mineral mining, aggregates, electrical transmission, and pipeline companies using public lands;
2. First Nations, Métis communities and traditional land users;
3. Local populations and communities including urban and rural municipalities, farmers, hunters and trappers, and recreational users;
4. Other populations and population centers in Alberta who may be impacted, but are not residing in close proximity to the public lands being assessed; and
5. Municipal, provincial, and federal governments.
Refer to RFP in the documents section.
